| Bits should be reground when the rate of penetration drops or when the carbide shows signs of damage A regular grinding program usually leads to good work habits. For example, drill bits can be inspected and then reground after a certain number of holes or at the end of a shift. Grinding too early is not necessarily uneconomical because there are fewer carbides to grind away. It is better to regrind than to lose productivity due to damage. Proper grinding can significantly extend the life of your drill bit. But just as importantly, it also improves the performance of the overall drilling operation, especially the straightness of the hole. |
